August Reflections: Grounding in the Here and Now
Lately, I’ve been feeling that in-between August energy. You know the one—when summer’s still lingering in the air, but something quieter is starting to stir beneath it. The light shifts just slightly. Routines start to sneak back in. And even if things are still in full swing, there’s a part of me that’s already reaching for stillness, for steadiness.
This is when I lean into my yoga practice the most.
Not for a sweat. Not for the stretch. But for that feeling of coming home to myself.
Lately in class—and in my own practice—I’ve been focusing on grounding. Slowing things down. Moving in a way that feels intentional and connected. Even simple poses like Mountain or Child’s Pose feel like anchors when I give them my full attention. There’s something deeply healing about rooting through the feet, feeling the breath in the belly, and remembering that I don’t need to rush anywhere.
I’ve been guiding my students through slower flows, longer holds, and breathwork that helps cool the body and calm the mind. Especially in the heat or when life feels full, this kind of practice gives us space to soften—not collapse, but release. Let go of all the pressure we tend to carry this time of year, the “shoulds” and the “what’s next.”
Instead, we come back to this moment. This breath. This body. This quiet gift of being alive and aware.
If you’re feeling a bit scattered, tired, or in transition right now—you’re not alone. Come as you are. Roll out your mat. Breathe. Let yourself be held by the practice.
My mantra this month:
“I root down so I can rise steady and clear.”
Maybe it resonates with you too.
See you in class. Let’s stay grounded together.
With love,
Kristi
